What is Chiropractic?
          

Chiropractic care is a healing art that is based upon simple anatomy of the spine.  The spinal column (which consists of many individual bones called vertebrae) is used to support the body and to protect the delicate spinal cord. The spinal cord branches out between each vertebrae.  These branches (spinal nerve) supply nerve information to all of the organs, muscle, skin and other structures in the body.  Chiropractic is based on the idea that any pressure or irritation of these nerves will affect the function of these nerves.  For example, pressure on the nerve that supplies information to the leg causes a painful condition called sciatica.  This same situation could happen to a nerve that is irritated that supplies information to the intestines, which could result in constipation, for example.  Chiropractic physicians try to find the cause of the problem, rather than covering up the symptom.
